I chose Highland dancing as one of my Scottish features; I chose this because it interests me. Highland dancing interests me because it’s amazing and I also do dancing, which means I like all of the leaps and jumps that the dancers do. Highland dancing has been a type of traditional Scottish dancing for many years. I think this is a good Scottish feature because it ties in with other Scottish features like music and events. I think nothing could possibly beat Highland dancing and it is also a good hobby and thing to do.
As we all know Scotland is famous for its BAD weather. However in other countries later on last year and the start of this year they haven’t had the ideal weather forecast either … Take Australia for example they have had a terrible flood which has destroyed hundreds of thousands of people’s houses, therefore they have had to be transferred into a different area. Scotland has its good and bad weather just like any other country, however in 2010 November, December time we had the worst weather in almost 100 years!!!
One of the family favourite castles in Scotland is Edinburgh Castle. Edinburgh Castle dominates the city of Edinburgh like no other castle in Scotland and Edinburgh Castle is unequalled in the whole of the British Isles. Over one thousand years of history sits on top of Edinburgh Rock, and when you see Edinburgh Castle you will understand why over a million visitors a year visit it.
Tartan is a traditional Scottish feature, it is used at weddings, competitions etc. It comes in wide ranges and colours, most families with their own tartan, such as Boyd which is a fresh red colour with royal blue stripes. Some people are so in love with the country’s tradition that they get their tartan kilts made from scratch costing thousands of pounds. I can guarantee that you’ll want to see some tartan.
Scotland holds some of the biggest festivals such as ‘T’ in the Park which is held in Balado Park about June or July time. The festivals hold over 1000 people and people from all over the country come to see these festivals.
The Scottish thistle is also called Scotch thistle or Cotton thistle is one of the most beautiful plant of British plants, it’s not common in England. They often grow by roadsides or on a waste land, particularly in chalky and sandy soils in the southern counties.
Finally I would like to tell you why Scotland is so amazing and give you some of the places where you could go and visit when in Scotland. Such as amusement parks and play areas… The two most common amusement parks are in Glasgow they are called M&D’s and Lowden Castle which is a great day out if you like fast rides. However if you’re not so sure about the fast rides, then there are also soft play areas in Glasgow good for younger children. I hope after reading this that you’ll have thoughts about coming to Scotland…
