Xeni,

I didn't have to go through any immigration scheme, I'd been with my husband for 5 years before we got married and he's the reason I moved here. I need to take a 'Life in Britain' test and once I pass that I'll have dual citizenship!! Wooo hoo. I'm living near Glasgow.

To be honest, the weather isn't great, but hey, you can't have it all!

Hehe. Your description of your dad reminds me of the Oor Wullie strip in the Sunday Post where, it seemed, every eight weeks, Hank the Yank would stroll through town wearing a stetson and a camera and Wullie would take him back to ma's for mince n tatties. Loved Hank the Yank - loved Wullie's ma's kindness.

Raquel:
Well how lucky are you, bagging a Scot AND residency?!? Is that a special immigration scheme? Tier 4 with added perks. Where did you study? You're in Edinburgh? That's so funny to me about the eggs. We have white and brown in our 'Bama markets. One less culture shock for me! I'll be there in September, God willing and grants/scholarships come through and my house sells.
Is the weather really as death-defying as I hear?

Xeni,

Thanks

I came here originally to study, but since then I've gotten married (to a Scot) so I'm a resident! Been living here 4 years now :)

When are you coming here again?
The eggs are brown, not white. My husband finds it bizarre that we get white eggs in America

This was so funny. I love the part about the lattes. God love em. Are you in Scotland for school or work?
And...what color are the eggs?? (I don't like surprises.)

'Also, it’s clear that wherever you travel, it’s all about the people. We need to make much more of this Scottish aspect because when it comes to ‘people’ we can be quite good at this'.
This is so true! My parents love being in Scotland because they think everyone in this country is so friendly. It's all about the people for them (and shopping for my mom). One thing my parents always do say is that they feel very welcomed in Scotland. That's always fantastic to hear!

Great piece Raquel! I'm originally from Dublin and no matter how long you "stay" in Glasgow you will never get to the end of the syaings and banter! I picked up Scotland on Sunday yesterday and it had a free book called Parliamo Glasgow by Stanley Baxter included - full of great Glasgae lines. Just need to find someone to translate it now!

Ok, I have done some research and the general concensus is that the 'back of four' means 5 past 4.
Is it a Scottish trait to be late? I hate having to wait for someone, however I now have an excuse to be totally 'pished' by the time any Scottish person turns up as I will just drink until they do. Over and out...be warned, don't be late when meeting me!
