The trails up round Mugdock are excellent fun. I’ve ridden a few of them but got so many more yet to discover. Just got to be careful where you are riding as Mugdock Wood and Drumclog Moor are designated as SSSIs and are therefore protected conservation areas. The wood is an undisturbed ancient woodland and along with the moorland they support a variety of rare plants and invertebrates. Stick to the designated trails and it all will be okay though
In reply to - Ramsay MacFarlane posted an update in the group Biking Baggers : I bagged Mugdock Castle by bike the other day, only a short run with my wee bro but was fun none the less – he surprised me with how well he went! One thing that I’m going to try and take part in (depending on new parental duties) is the freshnlo Pedal for Scotland Glasgow to Edinburgh bike ride. It’s all for charity, Maggie’s cancer caring centres to be precise. So I would encourage anyone who has a working bicycle to sign up for it. The 51 mile route is on a mixture of closed roads, quiet back roads and cycle paths. It’s sure to provide some beautiful scenery along the way! I’m out of the action at the moment with impending fatherhood. Burr Jnr. is due to arrive any moment. Likely I won’t get back out on the trails till sometime in early autumn (I hope) so please feel free to update the group with your bike bagging exploits! I’m going to content myself with building up my new bike during any spare time I have between grabbing some sleep and changing poo filled nappies.

A combination of really really dry trails and pushing it hard. Tyre pressures were fine, just some heavy landings onto the rock hard trail. Apparently the Break Pad were doing a roaring trade in inner tubes that weekend so I know it wasn’t just my bad luck.
In reply to - Ray Burr posted an update in the group Biking Baggers : Anyone been out and about bagging the TCs listed below? I hit Kirroughtree at the weekend. It just wasn’t my day though. Forward planning, Ray, i like it! You’ll need to get one of those one-wheel-extensions (like a wee bike with just a back wheel) for when the bairn gets older – they clamp on fairly easy to your seatpost i think…

Just back from a weekend staying in lovely little Wigtown. The pretence for the weekend was my mate Tom’s Stag but it was really an excuse to get some quality mountain biking on the go and have a wee wander round the Bladnoch Distillery . All in all it was a very successful weekend with much biking [...]

Anyone been out and about bagging the TCs listed below? I hit Kirroughtree at the weekend. It just wasn’t my day though. A total of 5 snakebites on both front and rear wheels. Spent more time trying to fix or swapping out inner tubes than tearing it up the trails I think. Oh well, was fun anyway and I got the opportunity to introduce some newbies to the joys of mountain biking.
5 Snakebites? Holy Snake! Low tyre pressures? or just crazy riding?!

Desperate to get back out into the wilderness on my two wheels. Pollok Park trails are good fun bit don’t quite cut it on the scenic side of things. Next MTB adventure begins on June 11th. Four days of fun based in the Galloway Forest. Bring it on!

Want to bike up and bag a munro then? Well, the first one i have to start you off is Ben Lomond at 3,196ft (974 metres). The information contained here was provided by the intrepid explorers from Mountain Bike Rider magazine (June 2009 issue).
Start: (OS56/NS359985) The car park on the east side of Loch Lomond. From behind the permanent building you will see a sign that directs you up to Ben Lomond. From this point it is just a matter of following the trail up the hill. The main trail is easy to pick out and navigate unlike getting up the really steep bits. There are sections which are easily ridden but others where the bike will need to be carried as you ascend to the top.
Once you have reached the summit and have rested your weary legs it is just a matter of turning the bike back around and descending by the same route you just came up.
As the MBR guys stated in their feature this is wild country and any injuries sustained will have to be dealt with on the mountain side or by the mountain rescue team so be very careful. Head up, pick your lines carefully and take your time probably being the best advice for anyone game enough to attempt it.
Total distance: 13km (8 miles)

I’ve been Beta fan for years. In fact I’ve just finished making a Birthday CD for one of my mates in Aberdeen which features one of my favourite tracks of theirs: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wsbR2dEmHGc
